Many thanks to everyone who came to last night's Martini Club. The topic, "What is the role of the music critic in the 21st century", led to a great discussion, although an hour was only long enough to see how much more there was to say.
If you have time to make your way through a long article, I highly recommend this piece on music critic Don Rosenberg, who writes for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Rosenberg, an outspoken critic of the Cleveland Orchestra's music director, was eventually stripped of his orchestra reviewing duties, following years of complaints from the public about his opinions, and the Orchestra's gradual elimination of his access privileges. The Orchestra denies any culpability, while the newspaper denies any connection.
